Size Matters
Sometimes one size fits all when it comes to photo albums...but not always! Picking a photo album based on the size of your prints is a great way to start.
Most photos today are 4 inches by 6 inches aka 4"x6" or 4x6, therefore there is the greatest selection of photo albums that fit this size.
Large photos, referred to as Enlargements or Portrait Size Photos, also do exist. Enlargements tend to be 5"x7", 6"x8", 8"x10", or 11"x14" and photo albums are available to accomodate all of these sizes. Often times larger photos represent favorite photos or photos with special meaning.
Small photos are a thing. Instant Prints are a relatively new popular size and yes albums exist for them! Examples of Instant Prints include Fujifilm Instax and Polaroid credit card size photos at 54(W) x 86(H) mm. Another small photo size is referred to as Wallet Size Photos usually measuring 2.5"x3.5" often come with portrait packages. Also, 3.5"x5" used to be the industry standard photo size and some photo albums still exist today to fit this size.
If you are looking for a one size fits all (or at least most) photo album, then Magentic Self-Adhesive Photo Albums or Scrapbooks, both of which offer flexible pages are ideal options to choose.
Capacity
How many photos do you want to put into your album? Knowing the answer to this question will help you narrow down your options. Most photo albums hold the following: 500 Photos, 300 Photos, 200 Photos, 100 Photos, 36 Photos, or 24 Photos.
Page Type
Pocket Page Photo Albums: Slip-in pocket pages are typically made either from plastic only or both plastic and paper. Albums with all plastic pages are often smaller in profile than albums with plastic and paper pages. The difference in cover dimensions is because albums with paper and plastic pages often times have a memo area next to each pocket. The benefit of a memo area is it provides space next to each photo to write information about the photo such as dates, locations, special memories, etc.
Magnetic Self-Adhesive Photo Albums: Self-stick pages contain a stiff paper page with adhesive and a plastic sheet overlay, both of which are designed to hold photos in place.
